Once the machines start making machines will they take over?

Artificial intelligence, once just a theme of science fiction, is now a serious pursuit in the laboratory.  Almost everyone who ever sat down in front of a computer has wished more than once that it was more intuitive and could know what we wanted to do.  That, in many respects is what artificial intelligence is about.  But there are darker sides to artificial intelligence.  Some believe that a doomsday scenario could unfold as thinking machines evolve through artificial intelligence.  The specter of killer robots  may not be too far into the future.  Once thinking machines begin building machines the possibilities for an Artificial Intelligence disaster and a doomsday scenario where the machines take over become much more feasible.
